What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an FDA-approved dermal filler that stimulates your body’s natural ability to produce smooth, healthy skin. It is common for the collagen production in your skin to diminish over time.
This effect of aging decreases your skin’s elasticity and resilience, meaning lines that show up when you express yourself — smiling, laughing, frowning — start to be visible even when your face is at rest. Sculptra undoes this damage through the use of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). This compound works with your body to heighten collagen production and allow it to work better and longer. This process results in skin that’s firmer and smoother, giving you the healthier, younger look you want.
How do I know if Sculptra is right for me?
Treatments with Sculptra help reduce or eliminate facial signs of aging, especially in the lower face. It has been proven effective in dealing with:
- Smile lines — creases between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds)
- Marionette lines — wrinkles around the corners of the mouth (laugh lines)
- Chin wrinkles — folds or fine lines on the chin
Candidates for Sculptra treatments should be in overall good health and have no active diseases, infections, or conditions (including pregnancy). Be sure to inform your aesthetic provider if you have a history of severe allergies or are taking any medications or supplements that may impair your normal immune response. Sculptra Procedure & Recovery
The process for applying Sculptra is a minimally invasive procedure and can usually be completed in less than an hour. The first step in the treatment is for your cosmetic care specialist to clean and prepare your skin. In some cases, a mild topical or local anesthetic may be used. They will then perform a series of injections following a grid pattern to sufficiently treat the targeted area.
Your personalized treatment plan will determine the actual number of injections needed. A typical plan recommends three treatment sessions spaced out over a few months. Following the treatment, you may experience some swelling, tenderness, discoloration, and discomfort. However, these tend to be very mild and resolve themselves within 48 hours. Most of our Seattle sculptra patients are able to return to their normal routines by the next day, although care should be taken to protect the treated area from stress and exposure to heat and sunlight.
Sculptra Results
Because Sculptra works with your body to produce more collagen and healthy skin, results can take time to appear. Following your last treatment, you should begin to see smoother, firmer skin within a month.
But you may not realize your full results for up to three months. However, your final results can last as long as two years. Keep in mind that results will vary from person to person. Results and their duration are significantly impacted by each patient’s unique physiology, lifestyle, and skincare routine.
