Microneedling Information
Microneedling uses multiple microscopic needles to penetrate the surface layers of skin, creating very small wound patterns to break old collagen chains and trigger the healing process to smooth the appearance of wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks. Conditions that can be improved by microneedling treaments include - scars from acne, pore size, stretch marks, fine lines, wrinkles, and laxity.
The unique applicator size and design allows it to be used in tight or round areas where a dermal roller could not fit like the crease of the nose, along the upper lip, and across the chin.
Microneedling works well on any skin tone and type meaning it can be a safe alternative to lasers for those with darker skin tones.
Microneedling is based on the skin's ability to heal itself after an injury. Right after the skin encounters any physical damage, it starts the process of removing damaged tissue to replace it with new, healthy skin. Using multiple needles to vertically penetrate the surface layers of skin, treatment with microneedling allows the body to begin the wound-healing process which breaks up older collagen chains to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin within the skin. Results are cumulative and benefits occur with multiple treaments at regular intervals.
Healing time varies, though most start to see results a week after treatment. Immediately after treatment, patients may notice a red appearance in the treatment area and in rare cases minor pin-point bleeding depending on the depth of the needle penetration. Even a light treatment can enhance the appearance of skin texture and brighten your complexion.
Following treatment, skin can be pink or normal color and there can be some swelling. If retinol is applied during microneedling treatment, peeling of the skin will happen. It is important that you do not pick or pull at any skin that is flaking or peeling. Peeling can last 3-7 days and the severity of the peeling will depend on your skin condition.
Depending on the depth of treatment decided by your skin therapist, numbing creams can be used to increase patient comfort. The applicator can be adjusted to a length of .5mm to 2.5mm based on your skin condition.
